Unveiled at Apple’s “Scary Fast” keynote on September 9, 2024, the iPhone 16 Pro Max opened for pre-order on September 13 and began shipping to customers on September 20, 2024.
Measuring 163.0 mm × 77.6 mm × 8.25 mm (6.42″ × 3.06″ × 0.32″) and weighing 227 g (7.99 oz), the iPhone 16 Pro Max is built around a 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display. This panel delivers a sharp 2868 × 1320 px image at 458 ppi, supports ProMotion refresh rates up to 120 Hz, and features Always-On technology for glanceable widgets and notifications.
The chassis is crafted from Grade 5 titanium, offering a superior strength-to-weight ratio, paired with Apple’s latest-generation Ceramic Shield front glass and a textured matte-glass back for both durability and a premium hand-feel. For the first time, Apple adds a dedicated Camera Control Button—a tactile, programmable switch positioned just below the power key—to streamline photo and video capture workflows, complementing the customizable Action Button that replaces the traditional mute switch.
On the rear resides an advanced triple-lens camera array—48 MP main (f/1.8), 12 MP periscope telephoto (f/2.8, up to 5× optical zoom), and 48 MP ultra-wide (f/2.2)—together with a LiDAR scanner for enhanced depth sensing and spatial video capture optimized for Apple Vision Pro (Wikipedia). Internally, the device is powered by the A18 Pro chip and a re-engineered thermal system, enabling sustained peak performance without altering its slim 8.25 mm profile.
